Mom's Crazy Quilt

We're celebrating mothers with the current challenge at Scrapalicious USA blog..."Mother, I Love You".  Tell mom she's special with a card, scrapbook layout, or altered item and play along with us for a chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrapalicious USA store!

My mom's an incredible quilter, so I made her this crazy quilt card.

The Details:
  • I used scraps from some My Mind's Eye Lost & Found 6x6 paper pads to weave the background.  I adhered the woven strips to a scrap of cardstock, stitched the edges, then mounted it onto kraft cardstock.
  • I wanted lots of the woven background to show, so I chose just a few lovely embellishments to pull everything together.  The border is from Bazzill Half the Edge line.  These are the perfect size and scale for cards.  I added dots of Frosted Lace Stickles inside the eyelet for a little touch of sparkle.  Frosted Lace is sort of a pearl / white / glitter combo...very soft and not too glitzy for my vintage creation.
  • The tickets are from K&Co's ephemera pack.  I kid you not that I found the crazy quilt raffle ticket AFTER I created the woven background.  Was that divine providence, or what?!  There's so many great images in this pack!  To customize, I used Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type stickers to spell "Mom" on the smaller ticket.
  • I distressed the Bazzill Chips key with a variety of Distress Inks, Distress Crackle Paint, paint, and Alcohol Inks to get this worn metal look.  It's tied with twine and a big seam binding bow.  The final accent is a few mother of pearl buttons scattered among the other elements.

Many times I've gone completely overboard with my mom's Mother's Day card trying to embellish into submission.  This time, I'm letting the background speak for itself.
