CCC #16: Number One Dad

June and summer fun will be here before you know it, so join us at Creative Cutting Challenge with our two-week “Father's Day” theme and get a jump start on a card for dad's special day!

I paired washi tape with The Creative Pointe's "Number One Dad" SVG file to create a quick and quirky card for my dad.

Some Details:
  • I started with Stampin' Up!'s "Confetti White" cardstock.  This had the festive look I wanted, but wasn't quite "confetti enough", so I flicked on some red paint using a toothbrush.
  • After cutting the pieces of "Number One Dad" from cardstock, I added washi tape to the tie portion to create a fun and wacky tie...you know, the kind that dads usually get from their kid's on Father's Day!
The Creative Pointe

  • A thick layer of Glossy Accents provides just the right amount of dimension to the "Number One" section.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Stampin’ Up! ‘Confetti White’, ‘Ballet Blue’; Papertrey Ink ‘Smokey Shadow’
SVG:  The Creative Pointe ‘Number One Dad’
Inks: Americana acrylic paint ‘Cherry Red’; fine tip Sharpie
Embellishments: Washi tape
Tools:  SCAL; Cricut Expression; toothbrush; bone folder

A Card for Dad...on Mom's Day

Happy Mother's Day
to all the moms out there!

At Card A Day Blog, we work about a month ahead with our themes, so ironically, this week's Father's Day theme starts today!  I'm kicking things off with a fun and easy washi tape card for dad.

A Couple Details:

  • This card can be made in a flash!  I just ran rows of alternating washi tapes the length of my card.  I left about 1/8 inch between each strip and tore the ends.  I love the transparency of the tape...seeing a bit of the base color come through really pulls it all together.
  • Next, I stamped the fun greeting in black on soft stone stock.  I tattered the edges and added just a touch of color with Distress Markers.  I attached the square to the base with foam tape to give it dimension from the washi background.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Papertrey Ink ‘Spring Moss’, ‘Soft Stone’
Stamps: Inkadinkadoo ‘Happy Father’s Day’
Inks: Archival ‘Jet Black’; Distress Markers
Embellishments: Washi tape; Tim Holtz tissue tape ‘Symphony’
Tools:  TH paper distresser; Stamp-a-ma-jig; bone folder; 3M foam tape

Happy Father's Day!

Giving a "shout out" to dads today and sharing the card that I'll be giving my own dad.

Just a Couple Details:
  • I found this dapper dad stamp on a girls' craft weekend last fall and have been patiently waiting to create something with it. I really love the effect of stamping it onto ledger print paper...very vintagey! I added just a touch of Crushed Olive Distress Ink to accent the image here and there.
  • All the patterned papers are from My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Two "Breeze" 6x6 paper pad. The colors and patterns are perfect for masculine cards. I especially like the ruler paper for my dad...he's a crafty guy too and works with sheet metal and wood...things that definitely require the old adage "measure twice and cut once"!

#1 Dad Card

Here's a Father's Day Card idea using Friday's "#1 Dad" free digital stamp.  Pretty quick and simple.  If you haven't made your dad's card yet, you can have this one whipped up in no time.  This card also features the "cracked glass" technique from last week's Papertrey Ink challenge.

The Details:
  • I printed the #1 Dad digi onto PTI Kraft cardstock and colored it using Distress Inks and a water pen.
  • Next, I cut out the image, covered it in Versamark, and layered on several coats of Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE).  Keep layering the UTEE until you get a nice smooth surface.
  • After the UTEE is completely cool, I bent the image causing it to crack.  I really liked the light lines the cracks made, so I did not distress them with ink.
  • The plaid paper is from the scrap pile and looks a bit like a man's shirt...perfect background for our tie!
  • Next, I just added some "stitching" with a black Micron pen and a few buttons.
See, nice and quick...so if you still have that Father's Day card to make, get crafting!

Supplies:
Paper
: PTI cardstock ‘Kraft’; scrap background paper

Inks: Distress Ink ‘Crushed Olive’, ‘Stormy Sky’, ‘Barn Door’; Versamark; Micron pen; Sharpie marker
Embellishments: UTEE; buttons; DMC embroidery thread #350

Super Dad!

As promised, here is an example card made with Friday's free "Dad" digi.  I found the scraps of Superman comic strip paper and was inspired to color the dad word art in bright colors and go for a really fun graphic card.

The Details:
  • I printed the digi on SU!'s "Barely Banana" cardstock, colored it in with markers, and added Old Paper DI all over, focusing on the edges, and Wild Honey DI just on the edges.  Then, I trimmed to within a 1/8" of the outer lines and added glossy accents to just the actual letter areas.  It's attached to the card using pop dots.
  • The 1 is a sticker that was colored with marker and highlighted with glossy accents.
  • I didn't have a # sticker, so I just drew it on with Sharpie marker and added the glossy accents...voila!

Supplies:
Paper
: SU! cardstock ‘Garden Green’, ‘Barely Banana’; scrap Superman comic strip paper

Inks: Martha Stewart craft markers; Distress Ink ‘Old Paper’, ‘Wild Honey’; Sharpie marker
Embellishments: Colorbok ‘Wacky Licorice’ number sticker; TH matrix texture fade; SU! eyelets; glossy accents
