CCC #13: For Baby

Spring has sprung and it's the season of new life.  To celebrate, our two-week theme at Creative Cutting Challenge is "For Baby".

The Details:
  • I had a lot of fun with the baby bottle SVG in The Creative Pointe's "Baby Set".  As soon as I saw it, I knew exactly how I wanted to use it.  I cut the base from neutral patterned paper and layered on lots of different sized pink hearts, then added the top layer, which is cut from vellum.  I wanted it to look as if the hearts were floating in the bottle.  The nipple is just blush cardstock with a little detail added with Distress Markers and a water pen.
  • I am in love with The Creative Pointe's "Bracket Element" file!  I have found so many uses for it.  Here, I've used it to add interest to my background patterned paper.  Isn't that stripe delicious?  I scalloped the top edge with scissors for a delicate touch.
  • Of course I wanted a big fluffy, crinkly bow and did not have ribbon to match my color scheme, so I dyed seam binding with acrylic paint and Distress Stain.  Such a soft color...just perfect.  A trinket pin and some glass beads dress it up nicely.
  • Finally, a soft grey "baby" stamped in the corner and a few mother-of-pearl buttons finish things off.

I love this card and was so excited to present it to the mom-to-be.  But, sadly, the little one I made it for was born too soon and has joined the angels in heaven...rest in peace little Kayla Kathryn.  I pray that I'll have the chance to give this card to Amy and Ryan someday.

I can't wait to see what the other designers create for their "For Baby" project.  Click here to check out all the Creative Cutting Challenge Design Team projects and join the challenge. Even if you don't use SVG files yet, it's definitely worth the visit for some great ideas!

Lil' Pumpkin Baby

The work baby shower theme was Pumpkins and one of the girls found this idea online and asked me to replicate it.  How cute is this?!!

And so simple!  Just draw the face with permanent marker, cut a hole for the pacifier, and tie some ribbon on the stem.

We had one for each baby and then had a larger pumpkin with "Baby So-and-So" and the due date.  I cut the letters from brown card stock using my Cricut and SCAL, and gave them a light spray of Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist.  I also cut the hearts using the Cricut and SCAL, wrote the due dates in brown pen, distressed the edges with Tattered Rose.  Spray adhesive worked perfectly to stick the letters and hearts to the pumpkins.

Baby Boom!

We're having a mini baby boom at work...two baby girls, one due in November, one in December.  We recently had a baby shower for the moms-to-be and I volunteered to make the cards that everyone would sign.  We have twenty-some people in our department and I knew I had to make bigger cards than my usual half-a-piece-of-8-1/2 x 11, so I started designing 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 size cards.  That's when I discovered that the very few baby stamps that I do own are TINY!  Well, Cricut and Sure-Cuts-A-Lot to the rescue!  I chose a pretty font and cut "Baby" out of brown cardstock.  Then I cut two ovals...one cream and one patterned and scalloped the patterned one with decorative scissors.  The rest was just layering decorative papers, buttons, hand-dyed seam binding, and Tim Holtz safety pins.

Yes, they are both supposedly girls, but there's been some back-and-forth between boy and girl with the one, so I played it safe and added more blue on that card.  As far as I'm concerned, it's not for sure until that baby is born!

We also had some of the most adorable decorations that I'll share tomorrow, so check back!

Challenges Entry: Baby Dear Card

We're having a bit of a department baby boom at work.  Two baby girls (or so they say...I don't trust it until the kid is born!) are due in November and December.  I created this "Baby Dear" card with them in mind and for two challenges:

The Details:
  • The carriage and text background is a copy of an original Sears & Robuck catalog page that I recently purchased from Lynn Steven's Trash to Treasure Art Etsy shop.  I copied it onto light pink card stock and scalloped and distressed the edges.

  • "Baby Dear" is stamped on K&Co tag.  I wanted lots of layers on this card and I like how the tag added texture and color, but also gave me a relatively blank area to stamp my sentiment on.

  • The baby image is from Crafty Chick's Retro Fantasy.  I used the Glossy Accents and Distress Crackle Paint combination again on the baby image (check out my "Hit the Road" card for another example of this technique).  Added Old Paper Distress Stickles around the outside to give it a more finished edge treatment.

  • The baby image is adhered via foam tape to a chipboard label plate that was colored with Victorian Velvet Distress Stain.  Don't Distress Stains make it SO much easier and faster to color chipboard?!  Love them!
  • The final details were the hand-dyed seam binding bow, corsage pin with glass beads, and pearl accents below the sentiment.

I really love the soft, vintage feel of this card.  I can almost smell the baby powder when I look at it!  :-)

Spring Babies

Springtime means babies...at least in the animal kingdom, right?  I'm hoping that the neighborhood feral cat (Dodger's momma) is not preggers again...but I think she is...

Spring is often the time for human babies as well.  I know several people who have either just given birth or just found out that they are having a baby.

My friend Suzette and her husband welcomed daughter Alaina into the world last week.  I made this card for her baby shower.  Since I knew she was expecting a girl, I used a sweet confection color palette with a vintage flair.

Supplies:
Paper:  Stampin' Up! cardstock, scrap stripe pattern paper
Inks:  Vintage Photo Distress Ink
Images:  Vintage baby carriage image from K & Company Ephemera Pack Other:  Old Paper Distress Stickles, ribbon, Tim Holtz Trinket Pin, assorted glass beads, silver headpins, needlenose pliers, scallop decorative scissors, foam tape, adhesive

The Details:
  • I love how the glass beads on the trinket ring add that little something special and unexpected to this card.  Since I was hand-delivering this card, I could really go all out with the embellishments.
  • The other "something special" is the touch of Old Paper Distress Stickles.  I LOVE Old Paper Distress Stickles!!!!  I am on my second bottle.  They are the perfect color to add that tarnished silver hue of true antique glitter to your projects.
